Diocese of UK-Europe and Africa - Administration

As is the regulations laid out in the Church Constitution, every diocese of the Malankara (Indian) Orthodox Syrian Church has a Diocesan Assembly. The Diocesan Assembly (General Body) is the representation of all parishes in the Diocese.

The Diocesan General Body of the Diocese of UK-Europe and Africa meets atleast once a year unless otherwise deemed appropriate by the Diocesan Metropolitan. Diocesan Metropolitan HG Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios who is the President of the Diocesan Assembly, presides over the assembly meetings. Although matters related to the spiritual growth of the Diocese are discussed, the Diocesan Assembly is primarily constituted to discuss and decide upon matters relating to the temporal and physical administration of the Diocese, such as budgeting, accounting and activity planning. Each parish of the Diocese is represented at the Assembly by their Vicar and a certain number of elected laity, based on the number of parishioners. The term of all Diocesan Assembly delegates are five years. Certain special invittees are also invited the the General Body Meetings as per the discretion of the Diocesan Metropolitan

The Annual General Meeting of the Diocesan Assembly was last held on April 29, 2017 was hosted by the Oxford St. Mary's Parish. The new Diocesan Council was elected at this meeting. It was presided by HG Dr. Mathews Mar Thimothios. Fr. Happy Jacob was elected as the new Diocesan Secretary who succeeds Fr. Varghese Mathew who served as Diocesan Secretray during the previous term.
